Job description

Tri-State Security & Patrol is hiring for full-time and part-time Sioux Falls Security Officers. As a security officer you will monitor and patrol assigned areas to provide general security to clients — ensuring a safe environment, crime prevention and deduction, and order maintenance by observing and reporting suspicious activities. In this position you will need to anticipate potential problems and react to disturbances and prohibited conduct, as well as respond to emergency situations as needed.

Responsibilities & duties

  • Provide general security to clients — crime prevention, crime reduction, and order maintenance — by documenting and reporting activities.
  • Maintain visibility to deter unacceptable activities.
  • Comply with client's post instructions, which includes walking to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, vendors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical emergencies.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, and medical emergencies.
  • Call police and fire departments in case of emergency.
  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations and apprehend or evict violators from premises.
  • Prolonged walking and standing is required.

Employment requirements

Must be able to follow instructions and work independently.
18 years of age or older as required by contractual requirements.
Must have high school diploma or GED.
5–10 years of employment history.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with public interaction and report writing.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Ability to perform essential functions of the position without accommodation.
Able to pass background and drug test.
Neat and professional appearance; attendance and punctuality required.
Friendly and professional demeanor and provide quality customer service.
Handle typical and crisis situations efficiently and effectively at the site.
Physical ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for long periods of time.
Shifts are days/nights, weekends, and holidays.
2+ years of military or security experience preferred.

Work schedule

Sioux Falls Security Officers usually work at various hours, including late nights or overnight. They must spend a great deal of time on their feet or in a vehicle to patrol assigned venue(s). Security Officers must arrive to scheduled venues on time to ensure all client's necessary security measures have been implemented.
